My clinical philosophies are rooted in the values by which I both live and work. Authenticity, I believe contributes to the development of a trusting and real connection. Who I am in session, is who I am as a person, and the congruency of my own presentation is integral to supporting you to live your life according to your own values and beliefs. I am not here to tell you what to do. I’m here to remind you of the agency you have within yourself to heal from whatever is troubling you; to be the person you know yourself to be. We are a product of our environment; shaped by our experiences and the world as we’ve known it. That doesn’t mean that change isn’t possible. It means that how we feel, behave, and process information, comes from somewhere. It means that whatever is going on for you, probably makes a lot of sense somewhere deep down… even if it doesn’t always feel rational. Together, we can explore the source of what is challenging you. We can investigate why some things may be playing out the way they are. And we can process those experiences in a way that encourages healing, growth, and transformation. This is your journey. Welcome home! — Jane Whitlaw
Life is hard. Sometimes we face challenges or adversities that disrupt what we know and leave us feeling lost with what to do. Individual counselling can offer a space in which you may begin exploring yourself, honing in on key experiences to guide you along your path toward healing.
Life challenges can intensify when we feel as though we’re going at it alone. Sometimes, even when you have supportive people in your life, it may seem like they just don’t understand what you’re going through. One of our most basic human needs is to experience a sense of connection to others. This is why healing within group counselling setting can be so helpful.
Youth counselling is similar to counselling with adults, however the process may differ slightly, according to your age, developmental stage, personal goals, and needs. I believe it is important to recognize your unique qualities and strengths, meeting you where they’re at, so the two of us can collaboratively determine strategies that will work best for your life.
